Q1 - Is there any age limit to being an apprentice?
No, anyone can be an apprentice from leaving school (year 11).
Q2 - What is the duration of an apprenticeship?
It varies from 18 months to 4 years, depending on the apprenticeship and level.
Q3 - What are the advantages of being a Wakefield Council Apprentice?
You will:
- gain skills and knowledge from experienced staff
- gain qualification/s
- receive a salary and employee benefits
Q4 - What if I already have an equal or higher-level qualification than the level of apprenticeship? E.g. level 2 (GCSE), level 3 (A level), level 4-6 (degree)?
If you have completed an equal or higher-level qualification in a different subject, then you can apply for the apprenticeship. If it is the same qualification you cannot apply.
Q5 - What if I don’t have the grades required that are included in the essential criteria?
If you do not have the grades required, you will not be considered for this apprenticeship role.
Q6 - What if I am a school/college leaver and I haven’t got my results yet?
You can put your predicted grades in the grade box on application form.
Q7 - Can I send in my CV to apply?
No, you need to complete Wakefield Council’s application form.
Q8 - Can I apply for an apprenticeship at any time?
No, you can only apply when apprenticeships are advertised on the council’s website. If none are available, you can sign up for email alerts using the ‘register interest’ button.
Q9 - Do I need to answer all application form questions?
Yes, it’s very important to answer all questions as fully as possible by giving examples.
Q10 - How do I prepare for an interview?
- research the organisation/company
- know what is required of the apprenticeship
- remember what you have included on your application form

Q11 - If I have A-levels or a degree, can I just put them rather than the GCSEs the Job Specification asks for?
No, if the Job Specification asks for certain GCSEs then you must put them on the application form. Otherwise you will not meet the essential criteria.
