Wakefield flag survey

Over the summer flags have appeared across the district, including on lampposts.

So far we’ve been taking a safety-first approach. Making sure our streets remain safe for all road users by removing hazards, but leaving flags in place where it’s safe to.

Our flags are important symbols of our identity. They should be a source of pride that belongs to everyone right across our communities.

But we know you have a range of views on this topic. For some people more flags in their area might be something to celebrate. Others might feel more unsettled.

The Council is here to listen to, and represent, everyone. So we want to understand how you feel and what you think we should do next about the flags.

You can fill in our short online form to share your views. The survey is anonymous, and we’ll only ask for part of your postcode to confirm you live in the Wakefield district.

The survey is now closed

Thank you to everyone who took part in our survey about the flags that have been popping up in our district. We’ve received a large number of responses.

There are a wide range of views and some strong feelings. So now we’re going to take some time to carefully work through everything you’ve shared with us.

We really appreciate your input. As we reflect on the feedback, we’re mindful of the importance of community, respect, and kindness in how we move forward together.

We’ll be in touch soon to share what we’ll be doing next.
