What is a co-opted member?
A co-opted member is a member of the public aged 18 or over, who lives or works in Wakefield District.
We appoint co-opted members based on their skills and knowledge, in areas that are beneficial to our work.
They serve on committees and use their skills to help to:
- hold decision makers to account
- develop and review policies
- question officers about performance and quality of services
- reflect the voice of local people
They can review public services already in place, and future plans to change them. With the aim to bring benefits to the residents and workers in the district.
Their input is valued and can influence our governance future decisions and service improvements.
Being a co-opted member at Wakefield Council
As a co-opted member, you can be a member of one of the standing committees:
- Adult Services, Health and Communities Committee
- Children and Young People Committee
- Corporate and Resources Committee
- Regeneration, Environment and Economic Growth Committee
Being a co-opted member involves:
- attending regular daytime meetings
- examining different issues relating to the terms of reference of the committee
- site visits
Co-opted members serve for three years.
