About our emergency planning and business continuity team
Wakefield Council has a duty under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to plan, prepare and respond to any Emergency.
The Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Team support the Councils functions to co-ordinate, monitor, develop and review Emergency Planning and Business continuity plans and policies to ensure the Council is as prepared as possible to respond to emergency incidents.
During an emergency, the role of our Emergency Planning team is to co-ordinate the Councils response, assist the emergency services and support the needs of the people and communities affected by the incident.
In addition, the Emergency Planning Team works with partner organisations to carry out assessments on potential risks in order to develop, prepare and maintain emergency plans, guidance documents and other related information for the benefit of the communities of Wakefield and beyond.
Wakefield Council, alongside the West Yorkshire Resilience forum has produced the West Yorkshire Community Risk Register (CRR) which identifies the main risks that residents and businesses in West Yorkshire may face. The CRR forms the basis of multi-agency emergency planning, each risk in the register has its own risk assessment.
The Forum with all its partner organisations looks at the risks and how best to ensure issues are prevented or addressed as appropriate. It is accepted that the CRR does not cover all eventualities. However, there is no need to assess every single risk, particularly those of a very low likelihood of occurring, and many risks are assessed on their impact across the entire Local Resilience Forum area.
During an emergency, we and other organisations will strive to support all members of the community. However, there are actions you can take to help keep yourself and your family safe until help arrives. Guidance is provided in the Don't Panic Prepare Booklet.
The threat to the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) from all forms of terrorism is SUBSTANTIAL. To find out more information, please visit https://www.mi5.gov.uk/threats-and-advice/terrorism-threat-levels.
