Better data security, better care

The North East, Yorkshire and Humber Data Security and Protection Team offers free support to care providers regarding data and cybersecurity.

They assist adult social care providers in assessing and enhancing their data and cybersecurity measures.

As an adult social care provider, you know how important it is to have access to good information about the people you support and your staff. To store and share that information safely, you need to be confident that your paper and digital records are secure.

Free support is available for local adult social care providers on their data security journey. This is part of the national Better Security, Better Care programme.

The program will assist you in assessing and enhancing your data and cybersecurity measures. This will provide reassurance that you adhere to best practices and meet legal and regulatory obligations.

The main goal is to help you recognise the significance of data and cybersecurity. You will complete an annual online self-assessment using the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).

The North East, Yorkshire and Humber Data Security and Protection Team offer free support to help you to:

  • reassure the people you support, their families, and your staff that they can trust you with their data
  • reduce the risk of suffering from cybercrime and data breaches
  • carry out your annual self-assessment of your data and cybersecurity arrangements
    • This will be done using the nationally-recognised Data and Security Protection Toolkit (DSPT)
  • identify areas where you need to improve, and develop an improvement plan
  • comply with data protection legislation and Care Quality Commission's expectations on confidentiality and security
  • access key services such as NHS mail and shared care records

The North East, Yorkshire and Humber Data Security and Protection Team provide a range of information and support including:

  • information and advice on data and cybersecurity, and the implications for care providers
  • free webinars, workshops and training on data security, and on how to complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit
