Venues approved for Marriage and Civil Partnerships
Any venue that wishes to host civil marriages and civil partnerships must be approved by the Local authority under the Marriages and Civil Partnerships (Approved Premises) Regulations 2005.
An application can be submitted to the Register Office, Wakefield.

The process for a venue to become an approved venue for Marriages and Civil Partnerships is relatively easy.

If you are interested in making an application, we would recommend that you contact us and arrange for the Deputy Superintendent Registrar to meet with you and visit the site before submitting an application.
How to make an application
You will need to complete the application form.
When filling out the form, you will need to provide the following:
- the fee
- a plan of the premises, which does the following:
- clearly identifies the room or rooms in which the ceremonies will take place if approval is granted
- the boundary of the land, where the building is located. This should also include the linked outdoor areas for use of ceremonies and identify the room to be used by the registrar prior to the ceremony
- planning consent
- this confirms the premises has appropriate planning consent for public use, including marriages and civil partnerships
- a list of names and addresses of all directors of the company (where the application is made by a company)
Health and Safety Assurance Declaration
The following documents must be made available at the request of the relevant responsible authority.
- building control
- fire safety documentation
- emergency lighting documentation
- staff training records
When we receive the application, we will:
- check the application is complete
- arrange for a public notice of the application to appear on the authority’s website for a period of 21 days
- arrange for the Superintendent Registrar or their Deputy to attend and inspect the premises
- forward the application to the responsible authorities
If approval is granted, it will be for a period of 3 years and subject to compliance with the conditions attached.
