Childcare

If you are a parent or carer, the Families Information Service (FIS) aims to provide you with accurate and up-to-date information about childcare options. The FIS holds information on all registered childcare services in the Wakefield district. This includes:

  • breakfast clubs
  • childminders
  • day nurseries
  • holiday clubs
  • out of school care
  • pre-school playgroups
  • wraparound care

Search the Family Services Directory for a list of childcare providers in your area.

We provide childcare information in a Childcare Report which details the opening times, vacancies, costs, school pick-ups, full contact information, and Ofsted Inspection Grade.

Brokerage Service

The Brokerage Service assists parents/carers with complex childcare needs. This can include shift work or last-minute care requests. We can help if you have been struggling to find suitable childcare options.

Our service includes:

  • guiding parents through available information
  • encouraging them to expand their search criteria if needed
  • assessing if cost is a hindrance to finding suitable childcare

We also ensure that parents are aware of all eligible entitlements they can take advantage of.

How to make a complaint about childcare

If you have concerns about a childcare provider, start by discussing your concerns with the provider directly. If you are not satisfied with their response, you can contact Ofsted at 0300 123 4666 or visit their website for further assistance.
