Bowling and entertainment centre heads to Wakefield

Tuesday, April 22, 2025

The Council has welcomed the news that a brand-new bowling and entertainment centre is heading to the heart of the city centre later this year.

“I’ve been clear about the importance of getting more quality leisure and entertainment options into the city centre for it to thrive. And this is the future of the high street.

"This is fantastic news for this city, and I am delighted that our partners at Trinity Walk are driving this forward.

“I’ve made no secret of my ambition for a bowling centre right in the heart of Wakefield, and I know it’s something residents want to see too. So, it’s incredibly exciting to be welcoming Tenpin. This is high-quality private sector investment that shows confidence in our city and Trinity Walk. And it will be a real boost to our high streets and local economy.”

Cllr Michael Graham

Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth

Cllr Michael Graham

Tenpin, the UK’s leading bowling and entertainment providers, is to set up home inside the former Debenhams unit at Trinity Walk.

This announcement marks the start of an exciting year for the city centre.

Cllr Graham added: “Just outside Trinity Walk, our amazing Wakefield Exchange (WX) is now open. It is an exciting new space hosting events, street food, studios and more. And our plans to transform Cathedral Square into a new, greener and larger social and cultural hub are taking shape, as two major buildings are set to be demolished. Which will help make our city centre events even bigger and better.

“All of this will give more reasons for residents, visitors and businesses to come into Wakefield and create a busy and thriving city centre.”

In 2023, Cllr Graham confirmed that a key priority for the Council was to support a boost to the entertainment and leisure options available in the city centre. And a Council survey showed that this is also important to residents.

The Tenpin venue will include 24 bowling lanes, an immersive laser tag arena, Houdini’s escape room, arcade games, pool tables plus a bar and diner, creating a major leisure destination for the city.

James White, Centre Manager of Trinity Walk, said: "This is hugely exciting not just for Trinity Walk, but for the whole of Wakefield. We know the public has been asking for a bowling centre in the city for many years, so by working with this brilliant, leading operator we hope that together we can create something special. This has the potential to take Trinity Walk to the next level, attracting even more visitors for longer.”

Adam Jevon, Property Director at Tenpin, said: “We are proud to be one of the biggest bowling companies in the UK and growing. We are thrilled with the plans to bring Tenpin to Wakefield and to be able to offer a wide range of indoor recreation for the local community.

“Our goal is to create a space where people of all ages can come together. We pride ourselves on being a hub for the local community, providing them with unforgettable experiences and lasting memories. Trinity Walk is a great centre, and it makes for an exciting project for us all.”

Preparation works are set to begin soon. It is hoped the new space could be open by December.
