Young entrepreneurs encouraged to apply for free market stalls at Young Traders Market

Wakefield Council is inviting young entrepreneurs aged 16-30 to apply for a free stall and take part in this year’s Young Traders Market.
Taking place at Castleford Indoor Market on Saturday 24 May, the event offers an opportunity for new and emerging businesses to showcase their products, gain valuable experience, and compete for a place in the regional and national competitions.
"We want to support young businesses and encourage entrepreneurship in our area to thrive. This event gives young traders the opportunity to test their business ideas in a real market environment, reach new customers, and build confidence in their ventures. Market trading is an affordable and accessible way to start a business, and we hope to see many aspiring traders take advantage of this opportunity."

Our markets offer affordable and flexible spaces and a supportive environment for local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in the heart of bustling communities. There’s a huge range of goodies available to buy, from food to fashion, homeware and jewellery. As well as shopping, markets also offer space for activities and entertainment, meaning they are a thriving hub of opportunity.
At last year’s Young Traders Market, Libby Ramsden, from Herd & Hive, who competed in Castleford, won in the General Retail category at the national final. She was selling goat milk soap, raw honey and beeswax products made from a local farm.
Applications for a free stall are open until 30 April. All traders will be provided with a designated stall space and access to a thriving local customer base. Participants will also have the chance to compete for a place in the regional final in Barnsley on 1 and 2 August, with successful traders progressing to the national final in Stratford-upon-Avon on 22 and 23 August.
