Introducing the Deputy Mayor
The Deputy Mayor 2024/25 Councillor Maureen Tennant-King
Maureen was first elected to Wakefield Metropolitan District Council to represent Featherstone Ward 6 in May 2016.
Within the Council she has been a member of the Planning and Highways Committee for 8 years and is currently it’s Deputy Chair. She is also a member of the Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee and she also represents the Council on Wakefield Sight Aid Board.
Within her Ward she helped to set up the much-needed Sharing is Caring Featherstone Uniform Bank, and the Hungry Holidays project. She supports the Food Bank and friends groups in the Ward and in the wider community she assists The Clothing Bank and Airedale Children’s and Baby Bank, being a collection point for the latter.
She has been an active member of Featherstone Town Council since 1999 and has been the Mayor of Featherstone on three occasions.
Maureen is a trustee for Featherstone Rovers Foundation and is the Chairperson for Featherstone Urban Charities Board.
An avid Featherstone Rovers fan, Maureen is a life member and also enjoys relaxing at the family caravan at the East Coast.
Maureen and Terry married in 2000 and have 7 children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren between them. Terry will be the Deputy Mayor’s Consort and they look forward to supporting the Mayor and Consort during their Mayoral year.
