Report a missed bin collection

a wheelie bin full of rubbish on a street

Before you start your request

All bins should be placed out for collection by 7am on your collection day.

If your bin has not been placed out for collection by 7am the crew will not return to empty the bin.

Please do not report a missed bin before 4pm. Our crews work until 5pm and they may not have been to your street yet.

Why has my bin been missed?

Your bin collection may have been missed because of the following reasons:

Did you put the right bin out on the right day?

Check your bin day using 'Where I Live'

Below are some common reasons your bin may have been missed:

  • your bin was not out prior to 7am on the day of collection
  • your bin was not at the kerbside or collection point (assisted collections not included)
  • you have put items in the wrong bin (if you have put items in the wrong bin, we will tag it to let you know and you will need to remove the items before we will collect it)
  • If your bin is damaged, and we cannot collect it because of health and safety reasons (you can report a damaged bin on my account to get an exchange)
  • access issues – roadworks, construction being undertaken, road closure, etc.
  • extreme weather conditions
  • instructions via emergency services, police, fire, ambulance service
  • not being able to access premises or a communal area i.e. gate locked, obstruction, or health and safety reasons

Did you put your bin out before 7am?

If you put it out later, you may have missed your collection.

Have all the other bins in your street been collected?

If the bins for the rest of your street haven't been collected, the collection may be running late. Please wait until the end of the day to report a missed collection

If you have answered 'yes' to all these questions, please fill out a missed bin report.

Report a missed bin

Before you start, you will need to tell us:

  • which bin has been missed
  • the date and time you put out the bin
  • if your bin has been missed before

We have CCTV on our bin lorries and check the footage against any reports of a missed bin.

Wakefield Council do not collect side waste for domestic or garden waste collections (waste not contained in the wheeled bin with the bin lid shut).

Waste left for collection on the kerbside must be fully contained within the wheeled bin. If it isn't, it will not be collected.
