Telephone calls demanding payment

We are aware that people are receiving telephone calls from someone claiming to be from Wakefield Council demanding money or court action will be taken. We do not make calls like this. Please do not give the caller your bank or card details.

Refunds

We are aware of a scam where people are being telephoned, emailed or texted by someone claiming to be from Wakefield Council, saying they are due a Council Tax refund and asking for bank details.

Wakefield Council will not ask you for these details in this manner.

Please do not reply to these calls, emails or texts.

Council Tax bands

We are aware that a company is contacting people to tell them that their Council Tax band is wrong and is charging a fee to submit an appeal. You can appeal against your Council Tax band for free.
