Medium grants offer up to £5,000. They are open to applications from Charities, CICs, and individual creatives and organisations.

Constituted community groups are not eligible to apply.

Medium grants are expected to predominantly focus on creative and heritage activities which can be delivered in the short term.

Round 2 - Criteria Notice

In Round 1 of Culture Grants Medium and Large 2025, we received many high-quality applications. The demand for Culture Grants 2025 far exceeds the funds available.

As part of our balancing process, we will assess each application alongside other applications we receive. We will consider the range and balance of different activities we are supporting.

For the Round 2 deadline (14 July), we will prioritise proposals which:

Will authentically deliver activity to participants and audiences in the following wards:

  • Airedale and Ferry Fryston
  • Altofts and Whitwood
  • Knottingley
  • Normanton
  • Stanley and Outwood East

Will focus on one or more of the following criteria:

  • projects that have health and wellbeing outcomes for participants. Including but not limited to, creativity for older people, or for children and young people
  • projects that are for audiences who experience barriers in participating in cultural activities
  • projects that highlight the diversity of Wakefield communities and creatives

Please note that applications should be evidence-led. They should provide detail on the needs of the communities you intend to work with.

Medium Grants will support

  • medium scale creative, cultural, and heritage projects
  • short term participatory arts projects
  • short term projects that target engagement with culturally under-served audiences
  • match funding for national funding application i.e. Arts Council England
  • support for community led medium scale public festivals (free to access)
    • note: Festivals applications will only be considered in the April round of applications

Application deadlines

  • round 1: Tuesday 22 April 2025
  • round 2: Monday 14 July 2025

Decisions will be announced 8 weeks after each deadline, followed by a 2-week period for contracting and finance arrangements. Note that this could mean up to 10 weeks between application and a project beginning.
