Absent vote re-application - You may be required to re-apply for your postal vote

Electoral Services are getting in touch with a number of postal voters whose permanent postal vote arrangement will reach the end of the maximum period allowed on 31 January 2026.

You only need to re-apply for a postal vote if we have sent you an email or a letter requesting that you re-apply.

Postal voters that are included in the re-application process with no email address as a contact, will receive a letter.

Letters will start to land on door stops from Saturday, 1 March 2025.

Postal voters that are included in the re-application process that have supplied an email address as a contact, will receive an email communication.

Emails will start to go out from Monday, 3 March 2025 over a period of a few weeks.

The email communication will be sent from the following email addresses: elections@elections.wakefield.gov.uk or elections@wakefield.gov.uk

These email addresses are legitimate and are not spam.

Please re-apply as soon as you receive the communication to ensure you do not forget to take action. The next scheduled elections are the all-out District Elections in May 2026. If you do not re-apply, you will lose your postal vote.

If you have been sent an email or letter asking you to re-apply, please visit www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote and complete a fresh application to vote by post.

You will need:

  • your date of birth
  • your national insurance number
  • a photo of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper

If you cannot provide a signature (or a consistent signature) because of a disability, or you are unable to read or write, you can apply for a postal vote without giving your signature. To find out how to apply in this way, please contact the office during normal office hours on 01924 305023 or email elections@wakefield.gov.uk.

Information on the re-application process can be found on the Electoral Commission website: Process for informing postal voters of the requirement to re-apply | Electoral Commission.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with Electoral Services if you have further queries for the re-application process.
