Localism Act 2011
The Localism Act sets out a series of measures with the potential to achieve a substantial and lasting shift in power away from central government and towards local councils, parishes and towns.
-
Community right to challenge
Under the Localism Act 2011, voluntary and community groups, parish councils and local authority staff can express an interest in taking over the running of a local authority service or function. -
Community right to designate
Under the Localism Act, voluntary and community organisations can nominate an asset to be included on a list of 'assets of community value'. -
Community asset transfer
If local groups own or manage community buildings, such as community centres or village halls, it can give them a real asset base to support their development.
