Trees enquiries
Wakefield council manages trees on various sites across the district. Should you have any concerns about a tree then please see the below on how to report this.
You will need to tell us:
- the location of the tree using a map or what 3 words
- what type of issue the tree is causing
If you wish to make any type of tree enquiry, please fill in our online form. After this we will receive an application number. If you provide us with an email address an automated acknowledgment of your request will be sent to you.
Tree emergencies
Wakefield Council will quickly respond to trees in immediate danger or needing urgent attention. We aim to attend within 24 hours of us being informed.
General tree enquiry
For non-emergencies, Wakefield Council will normally carry out a tree inspection. This will take place within ten working days of us being informed.
Private trees
In relation to any private trees please see the below before contacting the council.
Many trees in the district belong to private landowners such as farmers, businesses and the general public.
Landowners have a duty of care to ensure that any reasonably foreseeable cause of harm or damage from trees on their land is abated.
The Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957 & Occupiers Liability Act 1984 applies to private landowners. The and Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 applies to businesses.
Should you have a safety concern for the general public/Highway in relation to a private tree, then please follow the procedure set out above.
