Southern Washlands Nature Corridor
The Southern Washlands Nature Corridor is less than one mile from the city centre. It has four sites made up of open water, swamp, marshy grassland, neutral grassland scrub and woodland.
The sites stretch from Stanley Ferry Flash in the north, the Southern Washlands Nature Reserve to Half Moon and the Ashfields in the south.

Nature conservation
In the winter, you can spot various wildfowl passing through the area during their migration, like:
- Goldeneyes
- Greenshanks
- Green Sandpipers
In spring and summer, the grassland is full of wildflowers, butterflies, and dragonflies. There are also beautiful Sweet Chestnut trees to see in the autumn
