Knottingley community hub

The Kellingley Social Club is being refurbished and modernised to establish a community hub with flexible space. This is to accommodate a range of new community activities while at the same time retaining the familiar social club.

The £4million refurbishment project is funded by the Council (£3m). £1m of this is from the governments Getting Building Fund through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The club and adjacent pavilion are built on land owned by the Council. This was leased to the Foundation Trustees and the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO) in 1965.

Wakefield Council is working with the Board of Trustees to develop the community hub.  Independent support is being provided by Nova Wakefield District and Locality. This is a specialist organisation which supporting organisations to be strong and successful.

The Project

We want to create a community centre that can be used for multiple purposes. This is based on the aspirations set out in the Kellingley Miners' Social Centre - Visioning Day Report. The centre will be used for the following activities:
