School swimming
What is the school swimming charter?
We have set a goal that every child in the Wakefield district should be able to swim at least 25 metres by the age of 12. We want schools to join us in working to achieve this goal by signing up to our Swimming Charter.
Being able to swim is an important life skill and a great way to get active, stay healthy, have fun and it could save a life. Many children learn to swim outside of school, but for others school will be the only opportunity they have to learn this lifesaving skill.
We want to ensure that all pupils get the best opportunity to keep safe in and around water.
The KS2 National Curriculum Award will allow you to:
- swim confidently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes
- perform safe self-rescue
For more information or to sign up to the charter please contact aquatics@wakefield.gov.uk.
