Working with people to improve Adult Social Care

Making it Real: Help Us Make Adult Social Care Better

We want to work with you to make our services the best they can be. Your ideas, feedback, and stories help us understand what people need. Here's how you can share your thoughts and make a difference:

1. Adult Social Care Healthwatch Citizen Panel

The Citizen Panel is a group of people with lived experience of adult social care who help us make our services better.

Our panel is run by Healthwatch Wakefield. Some people on the panel use care services, and some care for others who do.

What Does the Panel Do?

  • shares ideas to improve care and support
  • gives feedback on what is working well and what could be better
  • looks at new ideas, like changes to services or new projects
  • helps check wording on things like letters, leaflets or websites, to make sure they are clear and easy to understand

When and Where Are the Meetings?

  • meetings are once a month and last about 2 hours
  • most meetings are in person at West Wakefield Methodist Church, Thornes, but you may be able to join online
  • expenses to attend the meeting are reimbursed

Want to Join the Panel?

We’d love to hear from you!

2. Making it Real Coproduction Board

The board is made up of people who use services, unpaid carers and staff from across adult social care.

This includes:

  • practitioners
  • senior leaders
  • colleagues from commissioning and communications

The purpose of the panel is to bring people together with different insights and experiences in the planning and development of our services.

What will you do on the Board?

Look at important plans

Like the Adult Social Care Strategy (this is how we plan for the future)

Help shape Strategies

For example our workforce development strategy, this is how we make sure staff are well trained and supported.

Give your views on reports

Like the Annual Local Account (this shows how adult care is doing)

Work on longer term projects

To change and improve services for the better

Meet and work with senior council staff

To make sure decisions reflect what people really need

When and Where Are the Meetings?

  • meetings are once a month and last about 2 hours
  • most meetings are in person, but some may be online
  • we’ll pay for your travel
  • you’ll also get a thank-you reward through Citizen Coin

3. Share Your Feedback

We want the people who make decisions about adult social care to hear your voice. Your feedback can help us to improve care. There are lots of ways to tell us what you think:

4. Take Part in Surveys and Consultations

We sometimes run surveys to ask what you think about important topics. For example, we recently asked unpaid carers how we can support them better.
Our current consultations are shared below:

5. Real-Life Stories: Voices of Care

We believe sharing stories can bring big changes. Our Voices of Care project shows how adult social care has helped real people. These stories help us learn and improve. They also show how unique every person is who we care for.
