Day opportunities service
The day opportunities service supports individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism and other complex physical health needs to develop their skills to become more independent.
Activities are offered at several bases across the district. These include life skills and food preparation, both within our bases and in our work style cafés. Other activities offered are computer skills, beauty therapy, arts and crafts, as well as out in the community with swimming, hydrotherapy, adapted cycles, rebound therapy, and bowling. Also offered are healthy walks and a horticulture/woodwork initiative based at Thornes Park Nursery. Individuals who attend are supported by a very experienced staff team consisting of community support workers and facilitators.
Residential care home
Residential care provides accommodation, meals, leisure activities, personal care and emotional support, 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
Residential placements are for people over the age of 18 who live in Wakefield and can't live independently at home due to physical or learning disabilities.
Some homes cater for people with different needs, for example older people over 65, people with dementia, older people with physical disabilities or learning disabilities.
Extra care developments
Extra care living is where people live in self-contained apartments which are available to rent. They are designed to allow people (usually over the age of 50), who have an assessed need for care and support (including those living with dementia), to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
They are designed to be fully accessible and dementia friendly and usually provide a 24-hour, seven days per-week on-site team to meet care and support needs.
Reablement services
Reablement is a short and intensive service, usually delivered in an individual’s own home, which is offered to people with disabilities and those who are recovering from an illness or injury.
The reablement service aims to work with individuals to encourage and motivate them to rebuild confidence, support the development of daily living skills, and promote and retain as much independence as possible.
Supported living service
The supported living service provides support for people with learning disabilities and/or autism and complex needs in the Wakefield district. The service supports people living in their own homes with a tenancy across a number of different properties, including purpose-built bungalows. Individualised care and support are provided ranging from a few hours to 24-hour daily support.
Our support workers enable individuals to live as independently as possible, accessing local services and community activities. The activities are chosen by individuals and include household shopping, paying bills, social clubs, ballroom dancing, hydrotherapy, attending sports events, day trips, and much more.
