Sensory Impairment team - how we can help
The Sensory Impairment Team is a specialist team that provides support to people who are d/Deaf, hearing impaired, sight impaired or Deafblind.

How We Can Help
Training for People with Sight Loss
We teach skills to help people move around safely, live independently, and use communication tools like Braille.
Care and Support
We assess people’s needs and help plan the right support. Our staff have special training in Deafblind care.
Keeping Records
We keep a list of people in Wakefield who are sight impaired, severely sight impaired, d/Deaf, or hard of hearing. This list includes those with both sight and hearing loss.
Hospital Support
We work with specialist officers at Pinderfields and Pontefract hospitals. We work with them to help people with sight loss get early support.
Community Services
We work with Wakefield District Sight Aid and Wakefield Deaf Society. We help people with sight or hearing loss get access to equipment, advice, and support.
